What is with everyone this year? I went back to work after a nice week off to one coworker announcing her divorce, a friend sharing her car with two family members whose vehicles were disabled, someone else’s mom had to have a pacemaker put in, and the boss’s father-in-law in the hospital after a stroke. If that wasn’t enough, a gentleman friend had his second stroke in less than a month, someone else had to go in for surgery, and every mean person on the planet has found my phone number.
This should be a time of new beginnings. A time for a fresh start and plans for the future. Okay, granted, the divorcing couple are looking for a new beginning, but wow, they seem to be moving fast. It wasn’t that long ago they were discussing buying a new house. He already has a closing date for a place of his own, and she has started a total house remodel. I also question the wisdom of a house remodel while obtaining a divorce, especially when there are three children to nurture during the process. I can only imagine the shock her emotions and immune system will take.
The old people who are fighting for life. I suppose they had very little choice in the timing. That addition to the story just goes to show that at least in my neck of the woods, so to speak, merry and happy do not apply. This is more of a time to keep my head down and be ready to duck when the next pile of doo-doo hits the fan.
